Teknik Kimia UGM

Summer Course 2018

PROGRAM

Chemical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada organizes Summer Course Program with the topic “Global Perspective in Natural Resource Technology for Water-Food-Energy Sustainability”.

Time & Venue

Date : 7-16 August 2018
Venue : Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Course Description

The program invites participants from various countries to redefine “technology” with humanism context as well as strong sustainability aspect in order to utilize technology to achieve the common Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Water, food, and energy are the three main pillars to achieve the SDGs goals. These are often seen as “nexus” which is inseparable from each other, even interdependent.

The Summer Course will focus on bioresource technology related to the availability of clean water, food, and energy. Bioresources has been selected as the focus as it is renewable and its utilization can be guaranteed by the appropriate application of technology.

In this regard, Universitas Gadjah Mada has built a long track record and developed a vast network both domestically and internationally in scientific studies related to water, food, and energy-based technologies for the sustainability of bioresources.

The program has been designed to create a vibrant environment to stimulate all participants to express critical thinking, team work and the ability to present innovative solution on the utilization of bioresources. The program combines group discussion, presentation from leading researchers from around the world (USA, Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia) in this respective fields and visits to several project sites and various interesting places in Yogyakarta.

Learning Outcomes

After completing the course, all participants are expected to:

  • analyze the general picture of water-food-energy problems and possible solutions in the 21st century.
  • explain the appropriate selection of physical, chemical, and bioprocess technology for sustainable bioresource utilization.
  • evaluate the importance of community engagement for the application of selected technologies to achieve SDGs in the water-food-energy sector.
  • formulate challenges in their respective countries related to the implementation of appropriate technologies as well as to identify steps to solve the problems at hand.
  • interact and work with colleagues across disciplines and across cultures
