Suryo Purwono is one of the professor in Chemical Engineering Department at Universitas Gadjah Mada. He earned his bachelor degree from Universitas Gadjah Mada on 1985. Professor Suryo continued his magister (1990) and doctoral (1993) program in the University of Waterloo, Canada, and obtained Ph.D degree there. Professor Suryo has released his book about the introduction of stage-wise operation. Based on his latest publications (2015-2017), he is interested in enhanced oil recovery, energy, and catalyst topics. Besides being as a professor, on 2010, he was also trusted to be the Deputy Director for Academic, Development, and Cooperation of Magister Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Professor Suryo Purwono has more than 70 peer-reviewed publications to his name and more than 110 papers published in many proceedings. Prof. Purwono’s research achievements have won several awards, including the Best Academic Poster Presenter Awards from Indonesian Petroleum Association; Certificate of Award for Excellence in Presentation in Tenth Symposium on Transport Phenomena in Thermal Science and Process Engineering, Kyoto, Japan; Best Paper Award Winner The 11th Regional Conference on Chemical Engineering; and Outstanding Chemical Engineering Academic Staff, Chemical Engineering Award APTEKINDO-BKK PII. He also receives many research grants from national and international levels. Prof. Suryo Purwono currently serves as Chairman of the Engineering Professional Program. Prior to joining the Professional Program, he was the Director of Graduate School in the university and served as Head of Chemical Engineering Department when he received the Best Chairman in National Level in 2009. Prof. Suryo Purwono also serves as Visiting Professor in Chalmers University of Technology, Chalmers, Sweden in 2003; De La Salle University, Manila in 2005; Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan, in 2007; Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, in 2008; and Gifu University, Gifu, Japan, in 2014.
