Bangkok, Thailand – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Tri Dharma of higher education, particularly in research. In the summer of 2025, Ardika Dhafka Alhaqie, a Master’s student in Chemical Engineering (2024 intake), under the supervision of Ir. Muhammad Mufti Azis, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., took part in a research internship at the Petroleum and Petrochemical College (PPC), Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. The program, held from July 4 to August 22, 2025, focused on Petroleum Engineering Technology, especially Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).
During the exchange, Ardika joined the Enhanced Oil Recovery Laboratory under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Uthaiporn Suriyapraphadilok. The research centered on studying adsorption phenomena in petroleum reservoirs, contributing to scientific understanding of advanced oil recovery methods.
Beyond laboratory activities, participants attended special academic sessions, including training on scientific writing, English classes, AI and Machine Learning applications, and fundamentals of petroleum and petrochemical technology. These classes were conducted over two weeks.
To enrich the cultural experience, weekend activities included city tours around Bangkok, either with fellow PPC students or independently. Iconic destinations visited during the program included Icon Siam, Chatuchak Market, Ramkhamhaeng District, The Chao Phraya River, and Chinatown. This exchange provided invaluable experiences, strengthening both academic expertise in Chemical Engineering and cross-cultural understanding of Thai society.
The program also supports the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), by fostering international collaboration in education and research.
