The 2022 WAFERS Summer Course, held online from July 25 to August 6, 2022, gathered over 130 participants from diverse countries such as Malaysia, China, Nigeria, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Afghanistan. Hosted by the Department of Chemical Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), the course centered on optimizing technological innovation in bioresources for water, food, and energy sustainability, with the theme “Improving General Perspective by Optimizing Technological Innovation in Bioresource for Water-Food-Energy to Achieve Global Sustainability.” Despite the challenges of an online format, the event fostered global collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The 2021 Water Food Energy Sustainability (WAFERS) Summer Course, held online from July 22 to August 6, 2021, was hosted by the Department of Chemical Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). The program focused on integrating global perspectives to optimize bioresources for achieving sustainability in water, food, and energy systems, aiming to build a more resilient society. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and global travel restrictions, the course successfully brought together over 60 participants from Nigeria, Indonesia, China, Pakistan, Thailand, Taiwan, Cambodia, Malaysia, India, and Vietnam, fostering international collaboration and advancing key sustainability goals.
The inaugural WAFERS Summer Course, held offline from August 7 to 16, 2018, at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), focused on “Global Perspective in Bioresource Technology for Water–Food–Energy Sustainability.” With 26 participants from Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, France, Australia, and the Philippines, the program offered a comprehensive approach to addressing challenges in resource efficiency, climate action, and sustainable agriculture, while promoting affordable clean energy and water conservation.
